On today we celebrate one of the chief pioneers in the African American Civil Rights Movement, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. King fought against segregation by using non-violent tactics. He led the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the 1963 March on Washington, where he spoke his famous, "I Have a Dream" speech. King was the youngest to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. Due to his and countless others efforts against segregation, Blacks in America are free to eat, sit, walk and go where ever we want to. In 1986 a National Holiday (today) was established on his behalf.
King had a dream, and in his dream all races walked hand in hand. Today America has a Black President. Letting us all know that Dreams do come true. King was assassinated in 1968 at a hotel in Memphis, Tennessee, so he is not alive to see his dream come to pass. He's not here, but we are. We have seen his dream lived out. All men ARE created equal. Everyone has an equal opportunity to get what they want out of life. So on today, I encourage you to DREAM! Dream those bold dreams that no one else wants to dream. Dream those dreams that might not come true while you're here, but will come true for the generations after you. Not only Dream, but work towards those dreams. Follow in the path of Dr. King. DREAM!!!!
